Musical Baton

I was passed this 'baton' originally by nomes and more recently, by Arif. Although it's going to be wildly difficult to do this thing justice, I'll do my best.

Total volume of music files on my computer: 31.28 GB on 2 HDs. Lots, basically

The last CD I bought was: Dawud Wharnsby Ali's 'The Prophet's Hands'

Song playing right now: Mariah Carey - Boy (ft. Cam'ron)

Five songs I listen to a lot, or that mean a lot to me:

I'm going to speak in terms of genres. Five songs is just ridiculous. I listen to way way too much to narrow it down that much.

House:

  • Brand New Heavies - Surrender (DJ Bomba & The Soul Seekerz Mix). A beautifully done remix of the original that does the rare: a better sounding tempo change. Nicole Russo's funky delivery just makes you wonder how anyone can even sing like that. The lyrics, in my opinion take this track beyong the level of most house.
  • Faithless - Miss You Less See You More (Beginerz Remix). Beginerz are at it again with this ridiculous remix. This is in my opinion an example of a near perfect house track. The vocals by Maxi Jazz yet again show off his fluid lyrical dexterity. It's smooth and it reminds one of why house is so damn good.
  • Spiller - Groovejet. This has been on the playlist for atleast 7 years. Classic Disco-filtered house that busted through resting on the vocals of Sophie-Ellis Bextor. Straight Funk.
  • George Michael - Amazing (Full Intention Club Mix). Leave it to Full Intention to bust through with such a devastating remix to an already classic track. In my opinion, the remix and the original are two seperate tracks. A smooth as hell job of vocal incorporation leave this track's lyrics ready to aim at your heart and the beats yelling at your feet to get moving.
Alt/Rock:

With rock, the songs mean more to me than their absolute scale quality. These aren't the best and they aren't classics, I just have a thing for them.
  • Coldplay. There is absolutely no way I can mention one of their tracks as there's so much that's so good. I'm going to make the X&Y CD my next purchase.
  • Keane - Somewhere Only We Know. A Nearly flawless track. The lyrics are done well enough to make repeat listens just as satisfying as the first. Why anyone would accuse them of ripping off Coldplay is beyond me. They have their own thing going and it sounds excellent.
  • Low Millions - Statue. I can't believe just how well their unique lyrical style works. I love this song. 'What about you?'
  • Thornley - Come Again. If there ever was a pre-game pump up version of mainstream Heavy Metal, this is it. I've blared this loudly in the neighbourhood on more than a few occasions.
  • Stereophonics - Mr. Writer. I will never get sick of this song, ever. To have someone do a song that does not involve his girlfriend and to do such a magnificent job of it is an accomplishment.
to be continued...
